Helpful Tips:
  • Some families have a “no posting in the house rule,” which means no family member or visitor may post a picture of any family member from around the house without their permission. This boundary creates a safety zone, like a crosswalk, that allows all family members to be themselves and relax at home without concern that a picture of them drooling on their pillow might be posted online.
  • Other families have a “first name rule,” which means family members may only be referred to by their first name in posts, texts, and handles. This rule is like the flashing hand on a crosswalk; it is okay to proceed with caution.
  • Another precaution is a “location rule,” defining how much location information is safe to share. For example, some families only allow general information — such as the state of residence — rather than specifics — such as a street address. This rule is like widening the GPS point on a map.
